"I am not a church-goer but I wouldn't miss Messy Church".
(feedback from one of our regulars)
Following the success of our craft days that we run around Christmas and Easter we decided to start a monthly Messy Church on the Ladygrove Estate in the autumn of 2012. However, while fairly new to us, it has been running in other parts of the UK since 2004 and is now also happening in at least twelve other countries.
Basically it has three aspects:
You can read more about the concept and history of Messy Church on their website.
We held our first Messy Church on the afternoon of Saturday, 29th September 2012 when we looked at Harvest Thanksgiving and Jesus' Parable of the Sower. Our activities included balloon modelling, biscuit decorating, card making, sunflower making, creating a prayer wall, guessing where our food comes from, free painting and word searches. There was also plenty of toys and games out for those who wanted to have a bit of free play.
Since then we have held monthly events. Our sessions run from 3.00-5.00pm. and normally take place on the second Saturday of the month (except August).
You can see more photos of what we get up to in our Photo Gallery.
If you've wanted to come to church but Sunday mornings or the usual type of service doesn't suit you or your family, why not give Messy Church a go?
Please see our Facebook page for further details of Messy Church events plus photos taken by some of those who come along.
